Why we love Kensington and Flemington

A cream coloured art deco building.

Quirky housing and a village atmosphere ring out across Kensington.

We love the feel of Kensington’s shopping strip, where old favourites such as White Rabbit Record Bar set a cruisy cultural agenda.

You don’t have to stroll far to find more quirky locals such as La Tortilleria.

There are big plans afoot to convert 90 hectares of underused space in Kensington and North Melbourne into mixed-use, mid-rise precincts, so that Melbourne can grow while becoming more liveable and sustainable.

Macaulay in Kensington and North Melbourne will riff on each area’s unique character and draw inspiration from its history.

Moonee Ponds Creek will also be enhanced… did you know this chain of ponds once flowed into a vast saltwater lake on the edge of the city?

Free: JJ Holland Park is a massive communal playground, hosting dirt bike tracks and a skate park, adventure playgrounds for the kids to explore. Look out for the shiny new multipurpose oval, or the sports grounds and off-leash areas where you can make new dog-park friends.

Action: A small part of neighbouring Flemington within the City of Melbourne includes the Flemington Racecourse and Melbourne Showgrounds. Both these iconic destinations become a hive of activity at various times throughout the year, infusing the surrounding area with colour and movement.
