River Studios artists launch new festive market

9 December 2022

Cross off your Christmas list with artisan gifts made by local creatives at River Studios in West Melbourne on Sunday 18 December from 10am to 4pm.

Located on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, River Studios is home to 57 creative studios and 75 artists. We’re supporting their inaugural River Studios Christmas Market with a Christmas Collective grant.

Artist Tirion Rodwell said the market will showcase River Studios’ rich community of creatives and support small businesses. They hope to make it an annual event.

‘This year you will find hand screen-printed textiles and wares, ceramics, illustrations, art and lino prints, stunning Christmas stockings and gift sacks in traditional and contemporary prints,’ Tirion said.

‘We will have complimentary peppermint hot chocolate by the Caffeina and Co coffee cart, and there will be a free gift-wrapping station featuring hand printed paper by Femke Textiles.’

While the festive market is the perfect opportunity to glimpse the wonder of River Studios, the creative hub is active year-round. So keep an eye out for more opportunities to explore.

‘Many River Studios artists participate in Open House Melbourne, which is the ideal opportunity to step into the minds and worlds of the individual artists here, and many host workshops throughout the year in their own disciplines,’ Tirion said.

‘Behind every studio door is a highly developed practitioner, creating beautiful work, through diverse mediums, exploring and expressing rich interior worlds. We pursue our passions informed by our values including integrity, sustainability, beauty and joy.’
