15 years of sparkling smiles: meet Dr Leila Zamani

23 August 2022

Feel cared for and walk away with a healthy smile after you visit dentist Dr Leila Zamani, conveniently located in the central city at 488 Bourke Street.

Leila has always wanted to look after people’s health and wellbeing, and she’s now led her own dental practice for 15 years. We’ve celebrated her lasting success with a Small Business Achievement Award.

Born in Iran, Leila set out initially to study medicine but ended up studying dentistry instead. She migrated to Australia in 2003 and, after transferring her qualifications, started practicing dentistry here in 2005.

Two years later in 2007, Leila took over an existing dental practice in William Street and went on to establish a loyal following of clients, including city residents and workers.

‘Dentistry is very rewarding: whether I am taking pain away from people, helping them to get over their fear, giving them nice teeth to smile with, or helping them restore their dental health,’ Leila said.

Dr Zamani Dental Practice offers a variety of cosmetic, preventive and restorative dentistry treatments.

Leila’s team members pride themselves in providing high-quality and affordable services. They also enjoy building long-term relationships with clients, to deliver ‘a lifetime of healthy smiles’.

‘When you work in the city, your main clientele are professional people. It feels great to look after lots of highly intelligent, successful professional people,’ Leila said.

‘Also, they are very time poor. For me to offer them service, I also have to be very punctual, which is my nature anyway. And I do enjoy it.’

As a lover of sport, art galleries and cosmopolitan cities, running her business in the bustling heart of Melbourne suits Leila just right.

‘Coming from Iran, I was born and bred in a big city. I love the vibe of a busy city with people around,’ Leila said.

‘I live in South Melbourne and love having cafes and restaurants around me at walking distance.’

We recognised Leila in the latest Lord Mayor’s Small Business Achievement Awards, among many other beloved city businesses that have been in operation for 10 or more years.

‘The award is great as it is very challenging to run a business as small as mine,’ Leila said.

Alongside the day-to-day challenges of being a small business owner, Leila is focused on the latest technological advancements in dentistry, and regularly updates her skills and knowledge base.

She is an active member of the Australian Dental Association and Australian Prosthodontic Society, and a member of the International Team for Implantology.

Looking to the future, Leila hopes to spend many more years caring for Melburnian smiles from her practice in Bourke Street – a brand-new facility with an inviting and calming atmosphere.

‘After 15 years of renting from big corporations, I finally bought a premises. So now I’m my own landlord. I’m hoping to stay in business for many years to come, to continue to look after city people,’ Leila said.

Dr Zamani Dental Practice is located at Level 6, 488 Bourke Street in Melbourne.
